The Bunker Cartoon Gallery, incorporating the National Cartoon Gallery and Holden Motor Museum, is a major tourism drawcard housed in a WWII bunker on City Hill. Holding over 26,000 cartoons from leading Australian and international cartoonists, the National Cartoon Gallery regularly hosts exhibitions highlighting various social and political themes. The Gallery is housed in a unique building, a combination of an original underground World War II bunker converted in 1995 to an exhibition space, together with a second upstairs Museum, completed in 2021. Upstairs hosts the National Holden Motor Museum, a significant collection of Holden Motor Cars, some dating back to the 1940s, and throughout the decades until the recent demise of Holden car production. The Museum's collection of rare cars and memorabilia provides a glimpse into Australia’s best-known car and automotive manufacturing history. The Bunker also features its WWII story, where visitors can view the outside of the original underground bunker through a large window display, adding to the attraction of your visit. Downstairs in the foyer is the gift shop, while upstairs also houses the Brock cafe with a treetop balcony for coffee, snacks and light refreshments. The Bunker also remains available year-round for venue bookings to be made through management.
