Although it is still nine months until the Australian round of the World Rally Championships returns to the Coffs Coast, (November 17 to 20), I would like to urge all businesses in the area to start preparing for the influx of visitors, both national and international.

This prestigious international motorsport event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our uniquely beautiful region to the world.

The WRC is watched by more than 50 million people worldwide and some of the stages on the Coffs Coast are considered the best in the world by the WRC drivers and their teams.

Last year the event attracted thousands of visitors to the Coffs Coast with an unprecedented flow- on effect to local business.

The net return to the economy was in the order of $13 million.

Rallying is one of the most exciting sports for drivers and spectators alike and the event is held on forestry roads and run to the highest environmental standards.

As in past years, the City Dress Up Competition will be held with another fantastic prize for the winner.

I understand consideration is given to the return of the Super Special Stage to the Jetty Foreshores.

That would be truly wonderful and will have the full support of the Chamber.

George Cecato,

Chamber of Commerce President.
