SMALL SCREEN, BIG ACTION: This year’s high octane action from the Kennards Hire Rally Australia in November will be seen on free-to-air television.
IT DOESN’T matter if you have Foxtel or not, you’ll be able to see this year’s Kennards Hire Rally Australia on TV.
At today’s launch of the event Rally Australia Chair Ben Rainsford announced Channel 9 has agreed to broadcast the motorsport spectacular to be held on the Coffs Coast from November 17 to 20 on one of its free to air channels.
Channel 9 will become Rally Australia’s partner for this year in the distribution of content inside Australia across the Nine network.
“That is a very significant step forward for us,” Mr Rainsford said.
The Channel 9 broadcasts will be in addition to those that will be shown via Fox Sports as well as the content provided on wrc.com.
Rally Australia media manager Chris Nixon said it was exciting for this year’s event to be televised by a network with a proven record in producing high quality motorsport content.
He added the next step was to work out with Channel 9 the finer details of the agreement.
“At this stage we’re not making a full blown formal announcement but we have concluded an agreement and now we’re going to be progressing to the stage where we work out exactly what air time we have and what programming we go into and what segments might be live and what segments might be delayed broadcast,” Nixon said.
“Suffice to say we’re delighted that we’re moving to a network that has a fantastic track record of televising major Australian motorsport events in this country.”
Channel 9 has televised Rally Australia in the past when the event was held in Western Australia as well as the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Adelaide and Melbourne and the IndyCar event on the Gold Coast.
