GROWTH: Business owners who are quick to say that good staff are hard to find should empower their existing staff through coaching sessions.
EVERY business owner or manager knows their biggest asset/issue is staff.
I have spoken with many of these people throughout my career and a common saying I hear is: “it is so hard to find quality staff.”
What I don’t hear often is what they are doing to help make their current staff better.
In business, as in sport, participants can be coached for better results.
In every field there are a special few who are naturally gifted, however most high performers are a result of hours, days and years of hard work and training.
Behind the most successful businesses, teams and clubs you will always find a great coach/manager that has the ability to connect with, motivate and coach their people to achieve outstanding results.
Coaching sessions do not have to take up huge chunks of time, but they do need to be done regularly.
To be great at something means regular training, no one is ever great at something they work on once or twice a month.
This is particularly true with new employees, who need to be regularly coached and mentored in the best practices within your business to ensure they are set up for success.
I know a lot of people reading this will think the idea sounds great, but where would I find the time to incorporate this into my week.
For most business owners and managers, coaching is the single most important action they can take to guarantee success in their business.
Regular coaching creates exponential growth within your business, by providing feedback and direction to your employees on a regular basis it makes them more self-aware of their own performance and enables them to analyse all of their client interactions and identify areas that they can improve on.
If you think about how many times your employees interact with your clients, your weekly 30-60 min coaching session can mean a multitude of self-coaching sessions for your staff.
Regular coaching and feedback will also help to improve staff retention, which any business owner or manager knows means a better result to your bottom line.
Coaching isn’t hard either, there are many techniques available and some of my favourite are the Grow model and feedback loops.
These techniques are simple and easy to use, they aren’t about you providing the answers but instead empowering your staff to uncover the answers for themselves, create achievable goals and make them accountable to reach them.
